THE TORONTO GUIDE TO RENTING AT YONGE & EGLINTON
Why Rent Toronto Apartments at Yonge & Eglinton?
UNIQUE APPEAL
For as long as anyone can remember this neighbourhood has affectionately been called “Young & Eligible”. The nickname makes sense as it sounds close enough to the areas main intersection Yonge & Eglinton. The neighbourhood also tends to attract just that, young eligible bachelors & bachelorettes who want to be steps away from great restaurants, boutique shopping and fun nightlife. Its central location doesn’t hurt its popularity either, located in the heart of the city you are minutes from downtown, uptown and everything in between. Rental options here are diverse, from high end rental condos, middle end highrise apartments and lower end basement units.
LAY OF THE LAND
The heart of this area is not surprisingly the intersection of Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue smack dab in the middle of the city. The borders of this trendy neighbourhood are more or less Blythwood Avenue to the north, Manor Road to the South, Oriole Parkway to the west and Mount Pleasant Avenue to the east. The area is a mix of single family homes, medium to highrise apartment buildings, condo towers as well as some taller office buildings. The closer you get to the main intersection the denser and taller the buildings get and it becomes quite clear that this is one of the most popular neighbourhoods to rent Toronto apartments in the city.
CHOW DOWN
If you enjoy going to restaurants and believe that variety is the spice of life then this neighbourhood is a great place to call home. Its reputation as the epicentre of Mid-Town Toronto has made it a dining destination for Torontonians from across the city. The area offers a myriad of casual dining options most of which are located north of Eglinton and east of Yonge. Grazie Ristorante has a lively atmosphere if you’re in the mood for Italian, The Pickel Barrel is always an easy option with a huge menu and Amore is the perfect place for a late Sunday brunch. For special occasions restaurants like North 44 really fit the bill, and believe me when I say there is something for everyone.
PURCHASE POWER
Where there is a high concentration of young up and coming professionals there will always be an abundance of shopping, and this part of Toronto is no exception. You can either choose the more traditional indoor mall experience at the RIO CAN Centre on the northwest corner of Yonge & Eglinton or hit the streets to discover a great mix of trendier boutiques and other more mainstream retailers including The Gap, Roots, Rockport and Sporting Life to name a few.
GETTING AROUND
This part of town is known for its central location and there are plenty of good options for getting around. The subway is one of the best ways to get around Toronto and at the heart of Yonge & Eglinton is one of the busiest stations right at your doorstep. There is also a major bus terminal attached to the subway for even more options. From this neighbourhood by car you can quickly access major roadways including the Don Valley Parkway, Bayview Extension and the Allen Expressway. From here it’s about a 15min drive Downtown and about the same distance to Highway 401 barring any major traffic. If you decide to rent Toronto apartments in this neighbourhood be aware that most rental buildings will charge you between $50 and $75 a month on top of your standard rental fee for parking.
FUN FACTOR
When it comes to having a great night out there are some wonderful options. If you’re into places with live music you can’t beat AlleyCatz, it’s a small jazz bar with an amazing atmosphere. If you want to play some pool, have a couple drinks with some finger food Spacco is the place for you. There are also more traditional bars like the Fox & The Firkin and Duke of Kent which offer a more authentic pub atmosphere if you’re just looking to grab a couple beers with your buddies and watch the game.
Overall the Yonge & Eglinton area is a great location to rent if you want to be centrally located with quick access to the city, steps away from great restaurants, plenty of shopping and nightlife for all occasions. Due to the neighbourhood’s popularity you can expect to pay a slight premium to rent Toronto apartments in this area, most buildings have low vacancies so if you find something you like I suggest you act fast.
